Applications of digital technology in COVID-19 pandemic management and response

Recently, digital technologies have been harnessed to promptly control the COVID-19 pandemic in combination with active injection testing and vaccination. There have been technological solutions available in Vietnam to prevent Covid-19, including entry, testing, contact tracing, quarantine, and vaccination.
The synchronous implementation of these measures not only helps in the early detection of suspected cases and early quarantine but also helps us to live together safely during the epidemic. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance that people now need to protect themselves and their community against COVID-19.
Many businesses and organizations have scanned QR Codes to confirm the time and place of presence for all employees before starting a working day; at the same time, employees are expected to complete health declarations at their workplace if they travelled to other provinces and cities. And during this epidemic, the number of people at their workplace has halved due to rotating schedules, but thanks to the application of technology solutions to ensure safety against the epidemic, they have kept everything moving smoothly.

The employees were required to work from home when the outbreak hit Vietnam. Their work performance has kept moving forward with management platforms, which  ensures the safety of the employees, joining hands with the government in fighting against COVID-19. The productivity has maintained, even doubled with only 15% of the staff at the office.
This result was only possible because most employees in many businesses have adapted to interact and connect via internal communication platforms to reduce the number of people in the office, as well as increase distance work.

At many companies, the heads of departments given notices of job assignments actively reassigned to their employees on digital platforms and online communication.  Online management culture is creating a safe and productive working ecosystem.

Microsoft’s Work Trend Index shows that 81% of Vietnamese laborers wish to continue working from home. During this sensitive period, technology has had the edge in most activities, including assigning work to individuals, checking processes, and making decisions of related units.
Rapid response and workplace changes due to external fluctuations created the opportunity for technology companies. A communication platform for businesses, integrated with a data management system, will promote interaction and connection, increasing productivity.

According to the Authority of Information Technology Application, the Ministry of Information and Communications, on average, every day there are nearly 500,000 medical declarations, almost ten times higher than in the early days of the pandemic. Currently, there are nearly 34 million downloads and uses of the Bluezone application.
All applications have been connected with linked data. In addition to the electronic medical declaration and the close contact record of patients infected with Covid-19, Vietnam has actively used QR codes to save epidemiological landmarks, a map of safe coexistence with Covid-19, to prevent people from moving to risk locations; at the same time, install cameras to monitor the isolated people. All these solutions need to be implemented synchronously within the consensus of all people. Only then can prevention and control strategies be deployed quickly and effectively

The response model in some neighboring countries such as Singapore and China has proven that technology application is one of the keys to solving the current effective epidemic prevention. The Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Information and Communications to adopt new IT solutions for the prevention and control of the Covid-19 epidemic, which will be used for other infectious diseases that could be the next pandemic in the future.
