On the morning of 23rd August 2019, at Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU), the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education (VAPE) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) organized a scientific conference on "The role of universities in building open educational resources to meet the lifelong learning needs of adults”.
The conference was attended by more than 100 leaders, scientists, lecturers nationwide. In addition to exchanging and sharing issues of building and developing open learning materials, the conference is also a forum for scientists to propose solutions to develop open education systems in general and open educational resources in particular for the Party and the Government on mechanisms and routes to facilitate universities to transform methods, build open educational resources so that learners can participate in learning whenever and wherever they wish.
The conference has important implications, helping to promote the participation of universities in providing lifelong learning opportunities for everyone, especially adults; contributing to the task of improving the quality of national human resources, flattening the current gap of high quality human resources, which still tends to be concentrated in major cities and at major universities.
The involvement of universities in the development of open educational resources is a necessary step to implement a shared education system. The more knowledge is shared, the more educational resources are developed and sustainable.
